International Mother Language Day – February 21, 2017
i. The United Nations’ (UN) International Mother Language Day annually celebrated on February 21 to promote awareness of linguistic and cultural diversity and multilingualism.
ii. International Mother Language Day is announced by UNESCO on 17 November 1999 and it was formally recognized by the United Nations General Assembly in its resolution establishing 2008 as the International Year of Languages
Celebrations :
♦ Promotional activities of mother language and multilingual education should be undertaken at country level.
♦ UNESCO will celebrate IMLD 2017 on the theme”Towards Sustainable Futures through Multilingual Education.” in Paris, France
